Spanish term

Antigüedad

Spanish to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Driver License
I saw a previous glossary entry for this same context, but the asker did not include the terms vigencia and expedición, which would have narrowed down the possibilities.

Vigencia: 09/09/2011 (Expires: 09/09/2011)

Expedición: 09/09/2008 (Issued: 09/09/2008)

Antigüedad: 09/09/2008

Nacionalidad: Mexicana

Is this when date when the previous license expired? Many thanks in advance.

Discussion

Robert Copeland Jan 26, 2009:
It seems that if this were an initial or "first time" driving license then it would be (Date of first/initial issuance), but in the case of a regular license renewal, then it would just be date of issuance...or that's to say, that it wouldn't always be "initial" because the person could just be renewing, after the previous license is due to expire.... They could have already renewed their license several times before

El objeto de esta linea es distinguir la emisión/expedición primaria del documento de las expediciones subsiguientes en cada renovación.

[I have just read Claudia's reference, which follows the same line of reasoning]

Date of issuance

Vigencia: 09/09/2011 (Expires: 09/09/2011)

Expedición: 09/09/2008 (Issued: 09/09/2008)

Antigüedad: (Date of Issuance)09/09/2008-This date determines the expiration date...xxxx years after the date of issuance-License expires every 6 years or every xxx years according to the particular area/state in question..... This determines the period of validity for the license-It starts on the date when issued whether it is an initial issue or a license renewal (Based on what I have found)......-I'm sure there are exceptions.....

Nacionalidad: Mexicana

Note from asker:
Thanks, Robert. I still don't see why they would have Expedición and Antigüedad if both refer to the same date of issue which determines the expiration date...wouldn't this be redundant?

agree Peter van der Hoek : Hi Robert. Why the low level of confidence?

This is one of those ?s that at first glance appears quite obvious, but after closer exmntn., there are other factors that might be taken into consideration.... I'm fairly confident though after doing some more searching on the subject....
agree eski : Sounds right to me: Saludos.Keep the good work, "tocayo" :))

agree Taña Dalglish : Absolutely. Agree with your interpretation. I just looked at mine & the exact wording: Original, Date of issue; of course, this depends on each country. Un abrazo.

disagree Juan Jacob : No, First issued on... Date of issuance is Expedición.

date

En este caso te indica la fecha al igual que la expedición, yo lo pondría así, más que darle vueltas a la palabra "antigüedad".

original or last issuance date

Two possibilities that might explain this:
1. To determine the validity period of the license from the last or original date of issuance(2-3-4-5-6 years or whatever it might be in the country of issuance of the license)
2. If the license or identification card has been expired over a certain amount of time then the record purges (drops off) from the system and therefore when the next license or identification card is issued then the original issue date will show as the current issuance.

Why is the original issue date on my record showing my last issuance date when I have had my license or identification card for much longer?

If the license or identification card has been expired more than 15 months then the record is pulled from the system and when the next license is issued then the original issue date will show as the current issuance.

To correct the original issue date the department will need proof of an earlier issuance so that the date can be changed.

Reference:

first issuance

I think they mean the date on which the license was issued for the first time. Like with credit cards. There's a date that indicates since when you are member (the first time you get the card) and the other dates (expedición) are the dates on which the bank has issued the renewals.
In your case both dates (antiguedad & expedición) are the same because it is the first driving license of that person.

agree Taña Dalglish : Absolutely. Means first issuance (Date 1st Issued). Mine says: Original, Date of Issue.
