anatomist

This is a person performing the actual dissection - either a pathologist's assistant, or possibly the pathologist himself. The same term is used for an assistant preparing gross anatomy specimens for teaching purposes.

Forensic Investigation Handbook

prosector:
The individual who is in charge of the actual dissection. In small hospitals, the prosector is a Board-certified pathologist, an MD or DO who has undergone a residency in the specialty of pathology, specifically anatomic pathology. In university-based hospitals with teaching programs, the prosector is a pathology resident (a physician who is training to be a pathologist) or a medical student taking an effective rotation in pathology.

Prosector

Clinical autopsy is performed by a qualified pathologist holding at least a post graduate diploma. A medical graduate is not considered qualified to carry out a clinical autopsy. Although in AFMS, surgeons carry out clinical autopsies in the absence of a pathologist, it is not a correct practice as many gross findings are missed while performing the autopsy.
