where the predictive validity of the numerical model may be observed
I don't see how *approximation* makes any sense at all here in English. It seems that what is being referenced, given the context of statistics, is the predictive validity of each of the two models (I assume that *modelo numerico* is the same as *modelo teorico* although this really isn't relevant for the translation.)

Not to stir up controversy, but I really don't see how *approximation* could possibly work here in a sentence. "Presents good approximation"? "Displays good approximation"? "Has good approximation"? All of these make for rather hideous English.
I am therefore puzzled by the Hallelujah chorus of agreement with this suggestion....
