Portuguese term

base do empréstimo

Portuguese to English Science Linguistics loanword adaptation
No modo estabelecido pelos Dâw para nativizar os empréstimos do PB, acionam-se as seguintes operações de reparação fonológica:
• adaptações de sons ilícitos (consoantes e vogais) do PB para Dâw;
• a sílaba tônica da palavra da língua doadora constitui a base do empréstimo;
• o ataque da sílaba pós-tônica do PB é silabificado como coda em Dâw;
• as regras fonotáticas de Dâw relativas aos padrões silábicos, número de sílabas por palavra, atribuição do acento e tom são implementadas.

In order to nativize BP words, Dâw employes the following phonological repair operations:
adaptations of unfamiliar BP sounds (consonants and vowels) to Dâw
the tonic syllable of the donor language represents the **loan base**
Dâw phonotactic rules regarding syllable templates, number of syllables per word, and stress and tone placement are implemented

loan(word) base OR base of the loan(word)

Doesn't really matter which way round you put it, it amounts to the same thing. See e.g.

"The Lb speaker also instantiates the surface Ls form as the Ls *base*, and SB correspondence constraints relate this Ls *base* to the Lb speaker’s output form as well."
http://www.unc.edu/~jlsmith/home/pdf/nels36.pdf

(Ls = source language, Lb = borrowing language)

A few other points:

- the first sentence says "empréstimos" (i.e. loanwords as opposed to just words, which would have been "palavras");

- ilícitos = "illicit/illegal", see e.g.

"Legal parse vs. illegal parse
(13) Massaro & Cohen (1983) experiment:
a. Ambiguous segments between [l] and [r]
b. Presented to English speakers in contexts [p_] and [t_] (among others). Initial [tl] is **illegal** in English; [tr pr pl] are legal."
http://www.unc.edu/~moreton/Papers/MoretonExpOT2007ho.pdf

- "tonic syllable of the donor language *word* constitutes..." (or "word from the donor language" - it says "palavra" there);

And you've missed a line - "the onset of the BP post-tonic syllable is syllabified as a coda in Dâw"

- "syllable patterns" in the last sentence; for "atribuição" you could put "assignment".
