Portuguese to English Other History
Good evening! I just don't like the idea of translating this literally. I thought of saying something like "I have been trying to get a street vendor permit but have had no luck so far" but would like to have more options and would love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks a bunch!

Yes, I gree with you David, I wouldn't use "tried"as it may give the impression it was a one time effort. Thanks for the nice suggestion by the way. :) Thanks to you too Adriana and Enza for your comments and suggestions. Now I'll have to decide which one fits best in the context. :)
Adriana Maciel Jul 13, 2010:
Mary, I would go with your version.
David Drysdale (X) Jul 12, 2010:
Careful with "I tried" . . It could be understood that the street peddler (camelô) made just one attempt to obtain the permit or license . . Sucesso!
Enza Longo Jul 12, 2010:
nothing wrong with your translation since it's informal speech. Another option: I'm doing my (level) best to get my permit but have had no luck so far.

I'm pursuing the license, but no luck so far
