Portuguese term

válvula em balanço

Portuguese to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Fuel injection system
What is the correct term for this in English? It means when neither the spring controlling the intake nor that controlling the outlet is compressed.

Girar a árvore de manivelas até posicionar as válvulas em balanço (lado do volante) e tempo de compressão (lado da polia).

I agree, that doesn't sound right to me. As yet, the client has not got back to me. They (probably) will eventually, but it could take some time. I'll try to remember to send you a message with the answer when they tell me.

So David - What's the answer? Having worked as a mechanic I'd like to know. I am pretty sure it isnt catilevered though :-)
David Swain (asker) Dec 2, 2013:
Thanks for your suggestion Nick. In the end, I queried it with the client. There have been many previous instances of the authors of these manuals using odd expressions previously and it seems like this could be one of those.
Nick Taylor Nov 30, 2013:
Both valves are closed Both valves are closed
In this photo, you can see that the lobes on cylinder number one are facing outward, indicating that the intake and exhaust valves are closed.
