Polish term

polmos

Non-PRO Polish to English Tech/Engineering Food & Drink
hello, I know it's maybe a silly question... I need to know what this term mean, it should be related to spirits - vodka etc. I found it in the names of several companies, so I don't have much context (e.g. Fabrika Wodek "POLMOS LANCUS"
Thanks in advance,
Manuela

It's an acronym of Polski Monopol Spirytusowy (the Polish Spirit(s) Monopoly) that was created before WW II and gave a monopoly of producing and distribute hard liquer to the Polish state. The name and the monopoly was maintained during the communist era

I don't know about web sites, but having a number of business locations across a country doesn't seem strange to me...
Manuela Dal Castello (asker) Jul 11, 2008:
thanks, but... is it possible that they have at least 20 physical addresses all over Poland and different internet sites?
Maciek Drobka Jul 11, 2008:
