Anyone remember Hoss in Bonanza? Apparently his name is Norwegian for 'good luck' in tribute to his Scandinavian mother. Not sure how this comes about. Anyone know the background to this??

Carole, not sure if this helps, but it seems to be part of the story! Search the page for Hoss

According to Store norsk-engelsk ordbok, er "hoss" dialekt for "hest". Jeg klarte ikke å finne noe som bekrefter dette, men gitt at moren var norsk, er ikke dette helt usannsynlig...?

Ooops, moren var visst ikke nødvendigvis norsk, men forslaget gjelder likevel...

I believe his mother was Swedish, but still on the right track... |

: The term "hoss" is also an English dialect/slang word for horse (perhaps just a careless way of saying (horse"), so that does not necessarily have to be due to Scandinavian influence.
