master recording, original master recording

In this context, the word "master" is normally used. You can see its collocation in Google. It is "master recording", and "original master recording" is also used often.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Roddy Stegemann : Master recordingは額実ではありません。マスターからコピーを作るので、オリジナルの販売したものであるかないか分かりません。

However, the high frequency of "master recording" cannot explain your point.
agree Mark Kellner : I agree with Daisuke. The definition of the source term at http://www.jva-net.or.jp/jva/videowords/words/genban.html describes it as made of metal or glass for mass production. This is equivalent to "glass master recording."

Thanks for the reference.
agree Yuriko Daikoku : In a contract between an artist/producer with record companies, original recordings made by the artist/producer is defined as "master recordings (with s)", and after it is lincensed, it becaomes "licensed masters". Ref is a signed contract I have.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Yuriko Daikoku : We no longer call it "tape" unless it is actually a tape (huge open-reel one with 12 tracks or more). Masters are now exchanged in CD/other digital formats, and are just called masters.
