Italian term

aeraulica

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Other
Need the UK equivalent.

I've found aeraulics, which I'm assuming is incorrect as it only appears in translations [the Kudoz glossary also provides 'aerolics' from a very fishy looking source EN document]

The IT definition is:

industria dei materiali e dei procedimenti per il trattamento dell'aria in genere, compresa la lotta contro l'inquinamento e la relativa attrezzatura industriale. In funzione aggettivale con riferimento a questa industria: scienza che studia lo scorrimento dei gas nelle condotte. Le tecniche derivate dall'aeraulica sono le seguenti: ventilazione, condizionamento d'aria, eliminazione delle polveri, essiccamento, trasporto pneumatico.

Stefano Costa (X) Feb 8, 2010:
I can't find it either not in any site that isn't French or Italian or translated from one or the other. I find a lot of "aéraulique" and cheching on IATE from French to "any language" just to see number of hits and all... you just get the impression it is ventilation/air/airflow something or the other. I was thinking of something along the lines of airflow dynamics, but that sounds too close to aerodynamics and could be misleading.
Oh. While writing this I stumbled upon "aerolics".
What do you say?
I research more and see where it crops up. Ciao
Ivana UK (asker) Feb 7, 2010:
Thanks Simon, Yes, my first thought was aeraulics but it just doesn't seem to be used much in En so I'm thinking it must be 'air ...' something or other!! The actual document I'm translating talks about 'aeraulica' (as in the science) but also mentions 'aeraulica interna' in the context of chemical fume hoods, which I think probably just relates to air flow.
Simon Turner Feb 7, 2010:
Air processing? In my glossaries I find only "air equipment", which looks right (in the context of the glossary) but which can hardly be the science, so it may be "air processing"? Just a guess, but "aeraulic" (the only answer in so far) does sound a bit strange (I'd have thought "aeraulics" if anything). Someone may like to look it up.

Thanks - it's strange, there are so many online hits for the Italian term yet so few for the English :)

Definitely "air processing" in your context. If Simon would like to post it as an answer (he did suggest this term in the discussion), I'll withdraw mine.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Simon Turner : No, I'm not interested in points - thanks all the same.

aeraulic

I have seen this term in translation more than once.
Note from asker:
Hi and thanks for your answer. I've found lots of occurences in translated documents (see my note above) but never in source EN documents so I'm not sure if it's a valid EN term. Both of the links you provided are for translated documents - the first from French, the second from German.
The main point is that I can't find 'aeraulics' (or even aeraulic) in any dictionary....
Peer comment(s):

agree Jennifer Levey : Yes - by analogy with 'hydraulic'.
