Italian term

controllo in COVID

COVID-19 Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
This is taken from a x-ray request form for a patient suffering from a fever with acute myeloid leukemia: "Quesito diagnostico: controllo in COVID". Another request form from a few days later states "Quesito diagnostico : Peggioramento sintomatologia respiratoria in paziente COVID-19 positivo"

Does this mean that they were monitoring for COVID-19 initially before it was confirmed with a test a few days later?

Thank you Joseph! I'll be adding this list to my glossary, it's a word that always stumps me!
Joseph Tein Apr 14, 2020:
controllo There are so many possible translations of this word. In case it helps, here's my complete list of possibilities:

checkup, check, examination, surveillance, monitoring, supervision, inspection, assessment, follow-up, screening, oversight, repeat (test); follow-up; testing

If I were doing this translation, I would say COVID (19) assessment.

Buon lavoro!

Addition: about a week after mention of "paziente COVID-19 positivo", another x-ray request form states "Quesito diagnostico : controllo COVID 19"

suspected COVID-19

Normally "quesito diagnostico" is "provisional diagnosis" - a test is not a diagnosis.

The test in question is an X-ray, so not a "test for COVID" per se - they're obviously doing the X-ray because the patient is suspected of having C-19.
You have two choices here - either translate it as if it was a provisional diagnosis and go for "suspected COVID-19", or translate literally and go with Joseph's suggestion of "COVID-19 assessment", or the wordier "monitoring of patient with suspected COVID-19".

Hope that makes sense!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "All very plausible answers but Fiona's was the one that fit the context best as the patient had not yet been diagnosed with COVID-19 (they were in hospital initially for another reason) - thank you all!"

test for COVID

This is how I would put it. This is what it means to me.

Follow-up (chest) X-ray in COVID patient

To my understanding the patient has already been diagnosed. This is a known case of COVID, they are monitoring the lungs.
