Italian term

sostenuto da

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) CT scan
This is from a patient's whole-body CT scan report. I think we need more of the text to understand this one:

"Si osserva una ectasia della pelvi renale che ha diametro massimo di 1.0 cm circa. Tale reporto *è sostenuto da* una brusca interruzione dell'uretere a livello del suo tratto pelvico cui ne consegue ectasia del lume a monte (5 mm circa) in assenza di concrezioni litiasiche endoluminali."

I don't understand what "è sostenuto da" means here. This finding [is "finding" the right word here?] is ...?... by an abrupt interruption of the ureter at the level of its pelvic segment, which gives rise to [which leads to? results in? ] ectasia of the lumen... etc.

Please help me understand this and get the right translation here.

Grazie mille di nuovo.
