Italian term

terapie conservative

Italian to English Medical Medical: Dentistry dental procedures
This is from an article in a dental journal, describing the history of a patient treated by the authors.

"Dal racconto anamnestico, si evince che 2 giorni prima la paziente si era recata dal proprio odontoiatra di fiducia per eseguire *terapie conservative*".

This is in a file that I am proofreading. The linguist translated this as "... she had gone to her dentist 2 days before for *conservative treatment*."

So I'm just verifying the translation ... I have a feeling that maybe it needs something different. To me, "conservative treatment" means nothing too radical, nothing too extensive or elaborate, just the minimum that needs to be done. I'm wondering if there is a different meaning for "terapie conservative" here, in this dental context. Or does "conservative treatment" (in English) have a special specific meaning in dentistry?

Grazie dell'aiuto.

Thanks Carol! I work from Italian and Spanish ... forgot to re-set the question parameters! Thank you for spotting this and fixing it. I have another question I need to check now :)
Carol Gullidge Nov 24, 2012:
language pair this is not Spanish. My guess is that it's Italian, but I don't know for certain. I'l edit the pair anyway, and someone else can always correct it if I do it wrong...
MedPharm Nov 24, 2012:
Restorative dentistry It usually refers to this meaning in Dentistry. Mainly procedures that do not involve surgery or other special techniques.
"conservative treatment" can be used, though.
Another thing would be the context. It might be used as a very general term, meaning many different things, not so much in terms of cost, but rather on techniques being used.
