lay associate judge

giudice aggiunto is also referred to as 'giudice a latere'.
giudice onorario is a part-time or lay judge, somewhat like our justices of the peace in England.

giudice onorario is also called delightfully a \'giudice non togato\'. \'Unwigged judge\'?!
