ratei di competenza

Italian to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Very urgent, your help greatly appreciated:

La scadenza del contratto è fissata al 31 dicembre di ogni anno e, di norma, salvo accordi particolari indicati nello stesso contratto, nell'anno solare in corso vengono fatturati i soli ***ratei di competenza***.

Interest accrued?

Discussion

James (Jim) Davis Jan 26, 2009:
So its definitely instalments.
Sarah Jane Webb (asker) Jan 26, 2009:
It's a customer service agreement
James (Jim) Davis Jan 26, 2009:
Is it a loan contract Sarah? A loan contract which is renewed each year is a little unusual, even with revolving credit.

intalments relating to the year designated in the contract

The expiry date of the contract shall be the 31 December of each year and, as a rule (save for specific agreements to the contrary, to be included in the contract), only instalments relating to the year designated in the contract shall be invoiced in the current calendar year.
You could replace instalments with "amounts".

The “ratei” here are just instalments or amounts Sarah. There is non interest concerned. The word accrued is used for “accrued expenses” which is amounts at the end of the year which you haven’t paid yet because the bill is due every two months say, but it isn’t the case here.

instalments for the year/accrued

I don't think that this refers to interest only, but probably capital payments plus interest

the instalments due in the year

This is not the normal meaning of ratei in relation to "competenza" where it is normally related to accruals and prepayments. In this case it refers to the scheduled payments under the contract
Peer comment(s):

agree James (Jim) Davis : Not to worry, I'd already answered it privately for Sarah complaining that she was "stealing" my points by not posting it, but also adding that it was incredibly useful to see what others thought.

scheduled instalments

Piggy-backing Jean's scheduled payments idea, whilst nell'anno solare suggests the annual idea is already in there and need not be repeated.
