Italian term

scegliere da compiere

Italian to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hello everybody. I am stuck in this paragraph. This is a technical text, however, my question is language-related. The paragraph reads as follows:

Cliccando sulla macro area “Classi di peso” sul lato sinistro, si accede all’elenco delle classi di peso programmate e da cui è possibile scegliere nell’associazione con un PLU, da compiere durante l’impostazione della lavorazione nella schermata iniziale di funzionamento della macchina.

Now, I don't know if there is a punctuation mistake or what but I don't understand it. Does it say, "it is possible to select, with the association with a PLU, to carry out..." And in that case, "da compiere" means... to carry out what??? I don't see any object).

Or is it "the association with a PLU" that can be selected? But then, why was the preposition "nell'" used (scegliere nell')?

Any help is appreciated.

Grazie!!

In my experience... ... Italian texts are more likely to be badly written than have something missing. Those in charge of writing technical manuals are often technicians, not linguists. Not that one precludes the other, but readability and clarity (and punctuation!) are often lacking.

There must be... ...something missing! And it's not just punctuation. Also some other little changes I think are necessary.
Your sentence would mean something if it was:
"Cliccando sulla macro area “Classi di peso” sul lato sinistro, si accede all’elenco delle classi di peso programmate da cui è possibile scegliere UNA CERTA AZIONE (I don't know what the text is about) in associazione con un PLU, da compiere durante l’impostazione della lavorazione nella schermata iniziale di funzionamento della macchina.

Italian term (edited): da compiere
Selected

to perform

da compiere, in this context, I think it just means 'to do' or 'to perform', if you like, the whole previous sentence 'scegliere nell’associazione con un PLU' is the object of the verb. Technical texts are often written by specialists and definitely not linguists, you can tell that in this very text the selection of vocabulary and syntax aren't great, including the use of prepositions.
With regards to 'scegliere nel', as I understand it here, might be translated with 'to select during', as 'scegliere mentre/nella fase di', but this is just my interpretation.

Italian term (edited): scegliere... da compiere

to be performed

I read the text as follows:
"it is possible to select, during the association with a PLU, to be performed/carried out..."
In simple words, the association is the action to be performed in the initial phase of setup. Hence the passive.

from which the user should select

Non potrebbe essere che l'utente deve scegliere il peso dall'elenco durante l'impostazione della lavorazione?

Cliccking on the macro area “Weight categories” on the left hand side brings up the programmed list of weight categories, from which the user should select (nell’associazione con un PLU) during the initial setup phase."

Please forgive my hurried translation, it's just to give an alternative interpretation of the sentence. Just a hunch. :o)
