I have a text on the calculation of structural constraints, stresses, etc. in a factory structure. In the spread sheet at the end I have a series of characteristics (with values and no other context) including such items as:

variabile piano

In the last of these I haven't the vaguest idea what folla is, stands for, or... Any ideas?

i.e. when the operating load is added. This could be people (if a bridge) or suspended loads (if a crane) etc.
Literally "folla" of course means a crowd of people adding their weight to a structure but in Italian it is used loosely to mean any kind of additional load that "comes and goes".

The English (UK) term is imposed load - see the Inst. of Structural Engineers definition
Example sentence:
