Italian term

attività di sede

Italian to English Other Education / Pedagogy
This is one of the types of modules (attività formative) of a university degree course. The others are attività caratterizzante, attività affini o integrative etc. I found a good description of the others here;
http://www.unife.it/orientamento/it/glossario
but I'm not sure how to translate 'attività di sede' - in my specific case the module is moral philosophy. Does it perhaps denote a course taken outside the actual school itself, in another University faculty?

Lisa Jane Jul 28, 2019:
Is this a philosophy degree? Hi Penny, knowing if this is a degree in philosophy or some other subject may help to determine the correct translation
Wolfgang Hager Jul 28, 2019:
sede here does not mean branch but the opposite: the university in general. So the meaning would be "other activities offered by the university", like choral singing.

many of the examples are actually 'attività di sede o altro' but the context is identical to mine

There are any number of examples on the internet and they all match mine, more or less, as previously explained.
Here's an example

@ PennyLyd Can you post some context around the usage of this term?

On-campus course

Based on your second example which refers to D.M. 270/04: AFF= “attività di sede e altro" [con ambito “affine o integrativo”]

This refers to a type of TAF, Tipologie di Attività Formative (second link), where MIUR translates attività di XXX as "XXX course unit"

Universities can be multi-campus organizations; I would translate your second example as "AFF = supplementary course on/off campus"

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I actually chose to use 'university-wide course' as the course in question was offered as part of a clinical psychology degree and this course (moral philosophy) seemed to be offered to students of various different degree courses- I don't think it was just that it was an 'on campus' course"

branch

well sede means a building where the activity (might be a university or a bank or whatever) is taken.

it's better if you ask to the secretary of your university what they mean exactly by "sede" in their context.

And I do agree that it means place of business i.e. that it does mean another University faculty.
