Italian term

30% p/p

Italian to English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng chemistry
These abbreviations are driving me mad...

The text is a processing chart for a chemical product. It's in table form. This entry says:

"Sotto agitazione portare il pH a 6,5 ± 0,5 stabile con Soda Sol.30% p/p l...... mantenendo la T° = 25°C ± 5°C"

I'm not sure what p/p means. I initially thought "per parte", but it's expressed as a percentage, which is strange. Earlier in the text a similar entry was folowed by "p/v", which I took to be "per volume" (and translated as "by volume"), but the "p" is baffling me.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sarah

correction p/v (in my grading comment) should be w/v. Sorry about any confusion :-)

for Clauwolf Thanks - I think "by weight" is probably what I'm looking for!

30% w/w

this is the way it is almost always written in UK english. The meaning is exactly as per the previous answer, i.e. 30% by weight.

In other word a 30% salt solution would be 30 g of salt in a total volume of 100ml (and hence grams) of water.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Although it was actually the first answerer who made me realise that the p stood for peso, I'm giving the points to Sandy as I really need the abbreviation. He's also made me realise that the p/v that I encountered earlier in my text should be abbreviated as v/v :-) Thanks to everyone, Sarah"
