Italian to English Other Botany
Could this be a Tuscan dialect word for some plant I am unfamiliar with? Like "scopiglio"?

preciso che io e le mie fonti ci riferiamo agli usi dell'aretino - forse puoi decidere per l'una o l'altra pianta in base alla provenienza del tuo testo/autore. hth :)

un amico toscano mi conferma quello che avevo pensato all'inizio - cioe' che si trattasse di un altro nome per la scopa, erica scoparia... quindi potrebbe trattarsi o di Cytisus scoparius o di Erica scoparia.

Non ne conosco il nome latino, ma qui dietro casa (in Maremma) abbiamo 2 tipi di ginestre (e non erica): una spinosa, l'altra non spinosa che qui chiamiamo "scopo" perch� viene/veniva usata per farci la classica scopa - quella da befana, per intenderci!

non hai un po' di contesto? "scopa" e' il nome comune dell'erica, ma "scopo" per una pianta in Toscana non l'ho mai sentito.

BACKGROUND Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius) is native to Europe and was likely introduced as an ornamental. It spreads by seed and inhabits well-drained sites over a wide range of precipitation regimes. Several commercial varieties of Scotch broom are not considered noxious. Check with your local weed control superintendent to determine if your plants are designated noxious.

La tua affermazione è un po' strana! vedi nota aggiuntiva: Se è chiamata solo "broom" va bene, ma tutti i siti che parlano di questa pianta la catalogano come Scotch broom, per distinguerla da altre varianti (French, Spanish,..)

agree Jo Macdonald : Vado anchio per questo Gian, ottimo. Ma secondo me sti Tuscan broom makers non hanno mai provato a rotolare un furry cactus per terra a raccogliere i fluffballs. Buono anche per le streghe per sederci sopra, vedrai come volano ;-)
