I think there is a contradiction in the source text, in that you don't grow cereals and forage plants in a vegetable garden. I wonder if there is a comma missing: "variet� orticole, cerealicole e foraggere". That would make more sense to me.

orticolo here means: ci� che viene prodotto nell'orto, produzione orticola= pomodori, zucchine, insalata...non credo che crop in questo caso vada bene. Do you think horticultural variety might work?
