Thanks everyone. The most familiar terms in a British context are "question time" and "parliamentary questions". That's why, when I see examples of επίκαιρες ερωτήσεις (and I've looked at many examples of how the term is used in Greek), I automatically think of "parliamentary questions". Of course, I wouldn't say it's an exact equivalent of the Greek term (but maybe it's "good enough" for some contexts).

@ nevipaul - you really should have posted your link as an answer. I'm not sure I'd put "question of actuality" in the glossary, but it's very useful to have an overview of parl. procedure.

Of course, procedure is different in each country. I now find that in the context of the British parliament, "topical questions" has a very specific meaning: it's a 10- or 15-minute slot at the end of question time.

Thanks very much for that information. I didn't know there were all those different categories of question, though I remember "written questions" and "oral questions" coming up in a job some months ago.

It seems (from the examples I've seen) that επίκαιρη ερώτηση refers to a specific part of Greek parliamentary procedure, e.g. Επίκαιρες ερωτήσεις προς τον πρωθυπουργό κατέθεσαν ....
