this is a far more common phrase than "means of transport", and is a bit wider than just car producers

I think this is a less clumsy and more acceptable way of communicating the concept in English, particularly in terms of the context you describe.

Example sentence:

"Jobs in the transportation manufacturing sector are booming at an unprecedented rate".
