Both terms denote people, at different levels, who make sports-car rallies work.

Limited context suggests the FAHRTLEITER has to do with managing the rally or a substantial aspect thereof (not a racing team). I have found the English term _rallymaster_ on the Web and suspect it might mean the same. ---

STRECKENPOSTEN (literally; track guards or track sentries, presumably volunteers) can be found at various locations along the track. They tend to carry cell phones and wear clearly distinguishing (e.g. red) coveralls or such. They’re mentioned on German URLs as performing various functions such as waving warning flags, lending first aid/assistance in mishaps (sometimes screwing up in the process), presumably controlling spectators, throwing sand on slippery spots, even walking along celebrity cars/drivers [yes, racecars can be celebrities :) ] for the camera like an informal honor guard, perhaps to soak up some of the celebrity. My problem has been that English URLs seem to focus on other aspects of rallies, and these helpful functionaries don’t seem to show up on lists of track officials etc.
