instructions for washing mops
This is from some instructions on how to clean mops:
"Mikrofaserbezüge sortenrein waschen, um das Verflusen der Faser zu verhindern"
I think it might be "felting" or "clumping together" - anyone know?

Comment: "I used "pick up lint and fluff from other materials". "Attract" would also work. Thank you all so much for all the help and explanations of this!"

prevent the fibers from creating excessive lint
This site says:
The second complaint is that the towel creates excessive lint. Microfiber lint is caused by towels with a high pile or a broad weave using a fiber split that’s inappropriate. The high pile or loose weave allow the fibers to break off, creating lint.
Might be a bit wordy, but LINT is the word you want.

Fluffing / Shedding occurs when loose fibres are released from the surface of the new carpet. This normally subsides within a short time.

linting
gets around the problem of whether it creates or attracts lint ... though I think the material itself would create lint/pill from being "roughed up" by other materials
