German term

Nutzen

German to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing
Ein Nutzen ist beim Druck die Zusammenfassung von kleinen zu bedruckenden Teilen (z.B.: eine Karte) auf einem großen Bogen, der nach dem Bedrucken in einzelne Teile getrennt wird.

It's clear what it means, but I would like the English equivalent of the word (if there is one).

a "XX-up"

XX represents a number. Printers speak of a "4-up" or a "32-up" for example.

"One possible application"

Here, rather than "benefit" or "advantage", I think you should directly say what the application is. Perhaps you could also say "One possible use..."

page

this may seem odd, but the books I checked, all say that the "signature", i.e. the big piece of paper that is folded or cut up after being printed, is simply made up of "pages". So depending on the size of the individual "pages" a "signature" can hold 4 or 8 or 16 "pages of view" (the number of pages on one side of paper) and so on. So, it seems like there's no specific term for "Nutzen". My main source was the Chicago Manual of Style, which has a good section on the whole layout and print process.

Advantage

Just to support a previous suggestion, in this context "Nutzen" is definitely trying to show taht the unit in question has advantages that are unusual. In other situations I might go for "One use for" but here its advantage.

Nutzen relates to a printing practice where the same group of pages is printed x number of times. This can utilize the printing paper better and speed up the printing job.
E.g. if a set of four pages can be placed twice on a printing plate, the printing press will only have to make half the number of 'impressions' to arrive at th required quantity, i.e. the machine is printing with double Nutzen!
