Sorry, yet another quotation!
„Die Herrlichkeit der Welt ist immer adäquat der Herrlichkeit des Geistes, der sie betrachtet – Der Gute findet hier sein Paradies – der Schlechte genießt schon hier seine Hölle.“ (Goethe)
Can't find any trace of this anywhere. Does anyone with a rather more literary background than me recognise this and know whether there is a received English translation?

I can only find a couple of DIY tranlslations. I'm sure you can handle the translation on your own, but I offer the following free translation to deal with that pesky 'adäquat':
Every spirit sees the splendour of the world according to its own splendour. The good find their paradise here, while the bad enjoy a foretaste of their hell.
(You could take it even further with 'Evey spirit sees its own splendour reflected in the splendour of the world', but that's a very free translation.)

Like Ken, I also can't find an accredited translation, so thought I'd offer you this as an alternative:
The wonder of the world is always equivalent to the wonder of the spirit looking at it - the good person finds Paradise here - the evil person is already exeriencing their own hell here
NB there are loads of sites on Heine, but couldn't find the quotation with a reference to source.

Re-reading the translations I posted above, I think the first one sounds absurd ("the spirit who looks at it"), and the second one sounds a bit like a word-for-word translation. The third one sounds more plausible.

: 'adequate' is a totally inadequate translation. I found the second and third ones, but not the first (never crossed my mind to translate 'Herrlichkeit' as 'wonderfulness' in this context...)\\agreed
