Kameratechnisch wahlweise unterwegs
German to English

Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
Kameratechnisch ist Robin Preston wahlweise mit einer Nikon D3 oder einer Mamiya inklusive Phase One Rückteil unterwegs.
Text about digitial photographer, Robin Preston. I'm not sure what the author means here with Kameratechnisch ... wahlweise ... unterwegs. Does he mean that RP is just as capable/comfortable with the camera technology of a Nikon D3 or Mamiya including a Phase One back? I don't need a translation of the whole sentence, just the general meaning would help. Thanks in advance.

As further comment on the previous answers (all reasonable IMO):
Personally I'd reword this according to the surrounding (con)text -- e.g. 'when he's on a field assignment, Robin's camera of choice is an xxx or an xxx' -- if this is the meaning of 'unterwegs' here.

Regarding camera gear ...
Das "technisch" wird oft in Aufzählungen benutzt, um von anderen auch nichttechnischen Ausrüstungen zu unterscheiden, oder um dem Ganzen einen "technischeren/professionelleren" Touch zu geben. Darum "gear".

I really like your idea of "just as comfortable with"

Or simply, "When it comes to cameras, Robin ..."
There has been a lot of discussion in the past about the correct translation of "-technisch". In most cases, you can just ignore it. The Germans throw in a "-technisch" here and there for flavor. It's essentially a filler meaning "im Bezug auf..."

: especially with regard to your last comment (it's equivalent to '-wise' in English, which is apparently no longer in fashion)

Another formulation - like hazmatgerman says, no need for the 'technisch', particularly.
