Any thoughts as to the most concise translation of gebietsweise? Clearly "gbw." is the abbreviation. so I'm trying to think of the shortest thing to put here too.

@Hannah There is nothing medical to "gebietsweise" here. Just use whatever you would use for the general expressions "gebietsweise" or "stellenweise" (partly, in some regions, locally, in places,...).

by area

as in area by area, but not sure how this would make sense in the context. in other words why would the result differ depending on whether you are looking at it area by area or as a whole. Could also be by region or region by region.
