German term

Tendinopathie

German to English Medical Medical (general)
"Tendophathie der Adduktorensehenen wurde diagnostiziert", which I assume is a typo for Tendopathie, which yields lots of googles for "tendopathy", but is not to be found in any English medical dictionary. I've found one translation of "enthesopathy" for Tendopathie, but would appreciate confirmation - thanks.

Thanks for the points, Jonathan - perhaps you could let us know which term your customer chose??
Anne Schulz Nov 14, 2007:
The above is actually a statement of the AOK health insurance, and, yes, they forgot to include "Tendinopathie".
Anne Schulz Nov 14, 2007:
It is a poorly defined condition. Pick your choice among the above. :-)
Anne Schulz Nov 14, 2007:
"In der Medizin werden zahlreiche Begriffe für die Tendopathie als Synonyma verwendet. Diese lauten: Tendinose, Myotendinose, Tendomyose, Tendoperiostose, Enthesopathie, Enthesiopathie, Tendinitis, Enthesitis, Insertionstendopathie, Ansatztendopathie"

tendINopathy

As assumed, Tendophatie is a typo for TendINopathie...

The term tendinitis is only one type of tendinopathy which is - I must admit - quite common for Tendinopathie. However, the term (-pathy) also covers other tendon injuries like microtears, ie. tendinitis and tendinosis.

Certainly, I didn't find "tendopathy" in Dorland's, but it is certainly used by some medics (Am)..

German term (edited): Tendophathie

tendinitis

IMO the English term is tendinitis instead of Tendopathie/tendopathy.

Now I see that both terms tendinopathy (thanks Petra, we have the complete term now, incl. *in* :-) ) and tendinitis are more or less interchangeable.

see e.g. http://www.injuryupdate.com.au/injuries/groin_&_hip/adductor...

And Googling of "adductor tendinopathy" vs. "adductor tendinitis" comes to identical numbers of hits ....

Maybe I came to my first suggestion because of this (comparable?) case:
German: Parodontose / (expert language) Parodontitis
Engl.: periodontitis (in any case, the -itis ending in English).

Confirmation in Google:
periodontitis site:.edu vs. periodontopathies site:.edu
(the -pathies simply don't exist in edu sites!)

Another example maybe: Arthrose <-> osteoarthritis
There are indeed different focuses of medical experts in DE / EN leading to these different terms.
Note from asker:
thx, but wouldn't they have used "Tendinitis", if that was in fact the case?
