Dear friends,
I have been translating a document in which there are several instances of "30er Kabel" and "30er Anschluss". Could any of you tell me what "30er" refers to.
A sample phrase follows:
Thank you very much for your help.

30 mm cable (cross sectional area)
Also a complete guess but I feel 30er is more likely to refer to the cable thickness (ie cross sectional area) than the no. of wires within it. This would be about right for a standard battery connection in a car or even a heavier vehicle. The cable would be around 6-7 mm thick. An isolation switch would be praczical for maintenance as the first thing to be done with any car repair is to isolate the battery. How do you isolate a 30 wire cable with a single switch? Or why would that even be necessary when you can cut the power with a single battery cable switch.

Comment: "Thank you so much to every one of you.
At least in this case, it refers to the cross sectional area of the cable.
For instance:
Betreff: Dringend!
Another example:
Also theoretisch mußt du bei jeder Querschnittsverkleinerung neu absichern. : Is there a switch in the automotive industry to switch a 30-core cable?

Mmmh - don't know - compact cabling - allowing for all the entertainment/navigation systems; but you might be on the right track.

possible explanation
Volkswagens have a 'Klemme 30', which is either a permanent +12V or +12V after switching the ignition on (can't remember). The '30er Kabel' could refer to the cable that is connected to the Klemme 30.
This is a total guess, though, and I can't back this up other than through practical experience many years ago when I had a Volkswagen.
I may be barking up the wrong tree, but perhaps this could be a starting point for further research if it fits into your context.

: Apparently correct: see: www.motor-talk.de/t4858/f71/s/thread.html 'Das sogenannte 30er Kabel ist das +12V Kabel, was mit der Zündung eingeschaltet wird'.

: I take your point below, but can't understand your insistence based on your confidence level. We are shooting in the dark here, and 30er Kabel is a slang tradesmens term which arguably doesn't mean much in itself.

Don't get me wrong, my suggestion is a total guess. You are right, we are shooting in the dark and 30er Kabel is not exactly an accurate technical term. I had just never heard of a 30mm csa cable.

cable 30 / terminal 30
