mucky weather / nasty weather

Langenscheidt gives "mucky weather" - perhaps "nasty weather" would be better in this context.

How about taking a less literal approach: \"When it\'s cold and loveless outside ...\"

Or better still: \"When it\'s cold, grey and loveless outside ...\"
Peer comment(s):

agree Annika Neudecker : I'd go with "mucky" though. It's not as frequently used as "nasty" but it's closer to the "Schmuddel" meaning.

agree Ian M-H (X) : "nasty" probably better here
7 mins
agree Sarah Downing : But I suspect that mucky weather might not be used in American English. Although BE should be fine for Guerlain - they're a French company!

Not really, but it rules out Schadenfreude ;-)
agree Ian M-H (X) : it's 'orrid in Bremen, too

And I'm all out of Guerlain - suicide scenario ;-(((((
agree Hilary Davies Shelby : move up north - blue sky, brilliant sunshine, and snow forecast for the weekend! ;-)

Absolutely no comment ;-((((((((
agree msherms : I like lousy weather - I'm in Bremen too. We have nothing to smile about!!

agree Gareth McMillan : Even grey make-up would brighten things up in Westerwald. Little Siberia here at the mo.

Cold, wet and windy outside and feeling down? /and no end in sight?

You wouldn't really start an ad in the English-speaking world with something like: "Horrible weather and winter depression?"
My suggestion is probably too long, however.

maybe:
"Dreary outside and dreary inside?"

Peer comment(s):

agree msherms : yep - this works good- a little pick-up from Guerlain!!

Just another possibility.....

dreary weather----

I often say "rotten weather" but I wouldn't use that

Oh the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful. So since we\'ve no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
: )

From dismal storm clouds to \"It\'s raining men\" with Guerlain..

OK- I couldn\'t resist writing that!!!
Peer comment(s):

agree Francis Lee (X) : I like "dreary"; When you walk through a storm hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark ... (I take my vial of Corolian with me everywhere)

Thanks.... I feel like I am walking through a storm right now!!
