German term

BV, KV

German to English Law/Patents
In a transcript of a proceedings before the Commerce Tribunal of Vienna, the abbreviations BV and KV appear as presenting or arguing.

I would like to presume that these abbreviations stand for Klägervertreter und Beklagtenvertreter or something similiar.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much!

Harold

Beklagtenvertreter, Klägervertreter

I think you are right, therefore:
representative of the defendant and representative of the plaintiff. In Germany they are very common abbreviations in court docs.

BV = Beschuldigtenvernehmung

I'll check for the other abbreviation.

KV = Klaegervernehmung
This one I am less sure of.

Vernehmung in this context equals questioning, examination or interrogation.
As you know, direct examination occurs when the attorney who has called the witness questions that witness.
Beschuldigtenvernehmung ought to equal questioning the accused or the defendant.
Klaegervernehmung ought to equal questioning the plaintiff.

KV could also equal Klagsvorbringen, but this means \"allegations contained in the complaint\" and probably would not fit here.

disagree Edward L. Crosby III : Not if they are persons (presenting, arguing).

I agree with you the abbreviations are meant to designate a speaker.
