Discussion

Janet Muehlbacher (asker) Oct 24, 2012:
added explanation by janet sorry Phil:the full context is:

"Zusatzaktien werden als frei verfügbare Aktien in Ihr Aktiendepot eingelegt. Sie haben jedoch die Möglichkeit, eine freiwillige Sperrfrist zu wählen, wobei die Aktien während dieser Sperrfrist weder verkauft, ausgeliefert noch belehnt werden können."
philgoddard Oct 24, 2012:
Could you tell us what comes before and after this? At the moment, it's not clear why this Sperrfrist is being imposed.

Here's an example of the term being used. The example isn't hyphenated, however I would prefer to hyphenate "lock-up".

The voluntary lock up period is subject to certain exemptions including where a takeover offer, scheme
of arrangement or other form of change of control transaction involving the Company is announced
during the lock up period.

agree philgoddard : You're right about the hyphen.

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : But they're not options, they're shares - does this term still apply?

I am certainly far from 100% certain (hence my rating of 3), but the business dictionary and some others that I didn't reference mention stocks & shares as well. I'd appreciate others contributing their thoughts. Lock-up is another term I've come across.
