German term
Rohbaubereich
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Food & Drink
Processing
Context examples:
"Beim Einsatz im Rohbaubereich der Automobilindustrie"
"Das Beispiel eines Rohbaubereichs in der Automobilindustrie verdeutlicht, wie ein Roboter in moderne Fertigungsanlagen integriert ist"
"eine Anwendung aus dem Rohbaubereich in der Automobilindustrie"
I'm sure there is a specific term for this, but I just can't put my finger on it. It is conveniently omitted from this glossary, for example:
Lexikon Deutsch Englisch Französisch
DEUTSCH ANGLAIS FRANCAIS
Rohbaubereich ... domaine de gros oeuvres
http://www.logistik-wildau.de/allg/1195399361_Logistik_Woert...
* Sentence or paragraph where the term occurs: See above
* Document type: Article abstract
* Target audience: Engineers
* Country and dialect (source): Germany
* Country and dialect (target): American English

Body in white [or BIW] {phase, area, section}
I learned that Rohbau for a car was referred to as "body in white" in the USA.
The first paragraph in Wiki below states it pretty clearly.

"shop" sounds like what they are using. See here:

Thanks! So how does this sound: "The body-in-white shop, for example, is a prime example of how robots are integrated in modern production plants, ..."? |

billbown
: The definition in the Fahrzeugtechnik section in the Rohbau entry in the German Wiki completely corresponds with the Body in white entry in the English Wiki. and the video shows robots operating in a BIW area. Cool!

Je nachdem, wie den Bereich aufschlüsseln möchte.
ABB nennt es jedenfalls so - und Langenscheidt auch.

I would think this ought to fit in most of the examples you provide.

shell construction (process)/structure work
Hello David,
I checked 8 dictionaries - no results - but Rohbau is "shell construction" or "structure work" - perhaps you can eliminate the "Bereich".

I believe it's a redundancy- and perhaps even a created word. We humans do so love to play with language!

Note from asker:
Isn't it odd that such a term is missing from so many dictionaries? |
