Can anyone give me any ideas on how to translate ansetzen in the last sentence of the following text on gas detection technology:
Diese Technik hatte bisher einen Preis, der sie für nichtindustrielle Anwendungen oft nicht wettbewerbsfähig machte. Denn wo nicht die hohen industriellen Anforderungen bestehen, kann auch mit weniger Aufwand an Gerätetechnik und an Installation eine vergleichbare Betriebssicherheit erreicht werden. Die neue Entwicklung eines Herstellers mit über vierzigjähriger Erfahrung in industrieller Gaswarntechnik setzt hier an.

You have a number of choices here, and I'm sure you'll find an elegant solution. Ansetzen in this context is "to set in" (this is where the development begins). You might even be able to use a phrase like "based on this premise (i.e. fewer devices and installations to achieve the same operating safety), the new development..."

With all due respect for my colleagues, I think this is too little to be said.
Of course it means 'set in', 'come in' 'start' and similar, but I do not believe that is not what the author wants to say. S/he wants to say that this is where the characteristics of the manufacturer come to fruition, gains momentum or makes its weight felt.
Thus I claim to have given the better answer.
