German term

realisiert

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Systems, Networks
I always have difficulty finding a natural-sounding way of translating "realisieren" - this is from a patent for a "packet-oriented data transmission system", which describes how various things such as DNS, VoIP etc. work before going on to talk about the invention itself. "Realisieren" crops up a few times, but this is the sentence I'm asking about:

"Namensdienste können auch datenspezifisch ausgeprägt sein: so wird für VoIP teilweise zusätzlich oder an Stelle eines allgemeinen Namendienstes wie DNS eine zusätzliche Funktion im VoIP-Dienst realisiert, der zu Nutzernamen ... deren aktuelle Kontakt-Adresse ... liefert".

Would it be too vague to say "VoIP includes...an additional function", or "incorporates", or "an additional function is provided..." or...??

TIA!

provides... an additional functionality that allows/offers/...
FrauWenzler Nov 4, 2011:
maybe paraphrasing will help: 'coming into action' it seems that there is an additional function (implemented) which comes into action (realisiert wird) and provides the current address
philgoddard Nov 4, 2011:
Yes, realized is probably not the best option.
opolt Nov 4, 2011:
Agreed -- -- though in the software world, most of the time it's "implemented". That's just the standard expression, I would say.

Also, "to realize" might be a false friend here ...
philgoddard Nov 4, 2011:
There are umpteen ways of translating this: realized, created, implemented, included, incorporated, added...

As per good old Dr.Leo ;)

expresses both " added" and "realized". " Implemented" is used when speaking of an entire software program being added to an OS.

Not within a program itself.
