German term

gelebt

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software compliance to standards
Die Prozeßverbesserung ist im jetzigen Stand nicht im Softwareentwicklungsprozeß mit integriert, da der Prozeß erst implementiert und gelebt werden muß, damit diese Aktivität sinnvoll ist.

Discussion

Steffen Walter Feb 27, 2004:
But "practised" will do the trick nicely on its own.
Steffen Walter Feb 27, 2004:
Where's the problem? "wenn der Softwareentwicklungsproze gelebt und angewandt wird" - that's an at least partial redundancy so typical for the German. If you want to keep it, you could say "if the software development process is practised and applied".
Non-ProZ.com Feb 27, 2004:
Just to make it more difficult :) Ihre Einfhrung macht jedoch erst Sinn, wenn der Softwareentwicklungsproze gelebt und angewandt wird, da die Schlufolgerungen aus diesem Post Mortem Review der Prozeverbesserung des Entwicklungsprozesses dienen.
Non-ProZ.com Feb 27, 2004:
I get the meaning, but I can't find the right word It appears several times in the text in the same context, and I would like to have one word if possible. But a paraphrase might also do. As far as the meaning is concerned, I tend to think somewhere along the suggestion of Steffen Walter.

practised/applied (in day-to-day business)

The process must/needs to be implemented and ***practised*** in order to make this activity useful (in order to give a sense to this activity?).

IMHO "der Prozess muss gelebt werden" just says that it needs to be practised/applied/followed throughout the course of business.

agree sylvie malich (X) : of course. Typical German-speak.

agree Aniello Scognamiglio (X) : "gelebt werden" hat Vorbildcharakter! Habe ich so in meinen Software-Projekten kennengelernt. Und "Leben"/"Vorleben" muß in erster Linie das Management:-)

lived with

Obviously you can't just say "lived" in this context, but I would have thought that "implemented and lived with" would be perfectly, well, sinnvoll.

experienced

must first be implemented and experienced
Peer comment(s):

neutral Brandis (X) : erleben bzw., einleben würde nach meiner Meinung "experienced" heissen

my take
Peer comment(s):

agree Armorel Young : just plain used would probably do

neutral Aniello Scognamiglio (X) : I am not sure: can a process be "used"?
