: It's 'raten', and this is the only answer that makes sense. Obviously, you cannot ask the same person the same question again

: Guessing is close, but it's similar to KudoZ. We don't usually submit guesses. The guests on this show are answering questions in quizzes. I don't think "guessing" is the ideal term. / Try quiz situations.

Thanks, Kim, but when you're in the hotseat across from Günther Jauch, going for 32,000 euros, and don't know whether A, B, C or D is correct but take a shot in the dark because you have nothing to lose, I'd call that 'guessing'.//Yes, that might work.

On the basis of Kim's additional input, delete the above answer based on the noun form ('Rate') and substitute this one based on the verb form ('raten'):
'each question-and-answer situation' or 'each round of question and answer'

: I'm not answering because I'm working on the same project that Kathryn's doing. Quiz contestants earn points for answering questions.

on-the-spot situations
a puzzling term indeed, but I don't think it has anything to do with "guessing" (unlike my answer)
