Discussion

Francis Lee (X) Jan 9, 2006:
Surely Andrew deserved the prodigal points there, Kathryn?
Kathryn McFarland (asker) Jan 7, 2006:
Thanks Kim for the extra context. I am only working on a small part of this project and was not aware of exactly what the show involved.

guessing situations

for lack of a more colloquial terms ... perhaps it will inspire someone else!
Peer comment(s):

agree Teresa Reinhardt : It's 'raten', and this is the only answer that makes sense. Obviously, you cannot ask the same person the same question again

Thanks, Teresa
agree Kim Metzger : Guessing is close, but it's similar to KudoZ. We don't usually submit guesses. The guests on this show are answering questions in quizzes. I don't think "guessing" is the ideal term. / Try quiz situations.

Thanks, Kim, but when you're in the hotseat across from Günther Jauch, going for 32,000 euros, and don't know whether A, B, C or D is correct but take a shot in the dark because you have nothing to lose, I'd call that 'guessing'.//Yes, that might work.
agree Wenjer Leuschel (X) : Quiz would be nice.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks - I used Kim's suggestion of "quiz""

incremental displays

The back-up is necessary because if one system were to go down it would not be possible to redisplay previous stages of the scoring.

On the basis of Kim's additional input, delete the above answer based on the noun form ('Rate') and substitute this one based on the verb form ('raten'):
'each question-and-answer situation' or 'each round of question and answer'
Peer comment(s):

neutral Kim Metzger : I'm not answering because I'm working on the same project that Kathryn's doing. Quiz contestants earn points for answering questions.

on-the-spot situations

a puzzling term indeed, but I don't think it has anything to do with "guessing" (unlike my answer)
