German term

freies Geschäft

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) benchmarking
First, sorry if I have gotten the classification on some of my questions wrong. I have a really hard time deciding how to code them.

Der Fokus ist auf der Beobachtung von Kennzahlen in den Kernprozessen, ergänzt um unterstützende Prozesse und *freies Geschäft*

I asked my client what was meant by freies Geschäft.

So, maybe something like voluntarily, optional or even broader "additional?" tasks/transactions/processes / other business? Or should I spell it out based on what additional information I was provided?

Wastewater industry Thank you for the information - I stick to my suggestion, though.

Which industry does this relate to specifically?

optional services / (business) offerings / "add-on" business

Depending on the industry, there seem to be a number of possibilities here although I'd favour a solution including "optional" (while "additional" work/services may still be included in specific contractual provisions).

Perhaps include the qualifier "extra-contractual" as you see fit?
Note from asker:
It relates to the wastewater industry, Steffen. Does that help?

any other additional, non-contractual business

"[...] and any other additional, non-contractual business [...]"

A combination of your suggestions would get the meaning across as defined by your client.
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : IMHO "additional" can be omitted: "any other non-contractual/extra-contractual business"

Yes...I was toying with the idea myself whether or not to include "additional"
agree gangels (X) : If they did it as a favor (re customer relations), it would be 'complimentary', of course, but else, you're right

agree Mark Straver : Also with "complimentary" depending on the specific context.
