Construction
This is part of a suspension coil spring for car construction - I have found this explanation of what it is but have not found an adequate equivalent technical term in English:
Also Übergangswindung bezeichnet man den Teil der Feder, der zwischen den nicht federnden Endwindungen und den Windungen mit konstanter Steigung im Federmittelteil liegt.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Discussion
It's an integral part of the suspension spring, but it is designed to provide a seating for the 'active' coils.
It is given as a unit in itself i.e. as a component of the spring that acts and is affected as a thing in itself. So the context for the sentence I am translating is a description of the places in a coil spring where failures can occur, with a certain percentage of those failures occurring in the Übergangswindung of a spring.
Does that make sense?
In English literature the "transition portion" from the constant pitch to the flat section of the coil is usually given in degrees - as transition angle.
