I'm translating product signs for an exhibition. This one is for a type of sprayer and I'm looking for the UK term for this. If any one knows the US term please include it because I might need it in the near future.

My apologies, but I can't provide the name of the manufacturer. The sprayer can be mounted on a truck or an "Abrollkipper"....the manufacturer has managed to make this possible whether it seems likely or not...I just need to make the translation possible. :-)

Also consider that the two terms are not related, especially if you are translating a list of product signs.

Just can't see how you can marry 'sprayer' with 'Abrolkipper'. tells us the manufacturer/type of your Sprühmaschine.

Yes, Kim, it's definitely a sprayer...I didn't incl. the sign's headline because it just has the name of the machine+sprayer (XYZ Sprühmaschine).

If it is a sprayer and is not a truck, I would guess that it is built into a hooklift container body so that it can be demounted from the truck when not in use. (we build similar systems)

As someone who has built hooklift demountable systems in the UK, I have never heard them referred to as 'roll off tippers'. Roll off Tippers could also describe a similar, incompatible, system by Brimec.

Google gives 17 hits in the UK for 'roll off tipper' and 800 hits for hooklift. Another name used in the UK is Multilift, but that is a trade name.

You are right about the way the sprayer is used here...it's demountable. However, is this the most common term in the UK?KM has it listed in his source as being the US term and my client has stipulated that I must use only British English.Thanks for your help.

There's no indication that this is about a sprayer. Langenscheidt Technik gives roll-off tipper as the UK English version and hooklift truck as the US version.
