Source: "Die hohe Kompetenz XYZs in der Verwertung
von Gebrauchtfahrzeugen". From a presentation about a used-car company. "Recovery" sounds plausible to me, but I don't know enough about used cars. The meaning here is simply to spruce up the cars for re-sale. Would "recovery" fit or does that mean more the process of thoroughly re-vamping damaged cars?

Ruecknahme is the "take-back" system or collection of old/scrap cars (aka end-of-life vehicles or ELVs) required by the producer responsibility obligations arising from EU Directive 2005/53/EC. Working cars can be refurbished and resold. Scrap cars or ELVs are usually dismantled, shredded, recycled and recovered.

Comment: "Thanks Erin and everyone else. The customer finally replied to my queries. It turns out the word was "unglücklich gewählt" and she actually meant "Inzahlungnahme" i.e. trade-in. Grr! Thanks again!"

: yes, quite likely. Recovery of cars usually means "Bergung von Unfallwagen" but doesn't describe the use of the wreckage.

Riesling
: not in this context - the cars are not wrecks, but used cars simply being spruced up for re-sale
