Thanks, andrewd - minimalistic is so often used inaccurately that I tend to avoid it unless talking about Minimalism! Ingeborg should perhaps post 'restrained' separately?

Thanks for getting back to us. This underscores once again the importance of providing context. The more, the merrier! Some things to keep in mind for future questions: 1) What type of publication/text is this? What's its purpose? 2) What's the target group? Readership? 3) Have you included sufficient source text? 4) Have you talked about your own thoughts and the results of your research? 5) Are you looking for a free or a literal translation?
We are not telepathic. I can't imagine that very many people would have guessed that your text described the halls in an office building.
I really liked both ideas, but not in my context: this was for a description of halls in an office building. (And yes, I now know I should have written that in my question, but it just didn't occur to me when asking the question).
So I thought "understated décor" was a little bit over the top in this context and I had similar doubts with "minimalistically" or my own "minimalist design". So, after talking to the author, I went for "Only white colour...".
