It's part of the description of a straw hat. I think 'collier' must be the chin strap, but I've never seen it used that way before. Has anyone else? And I'm not sure about 'bois cousu' either. Surely it can't be wood of any kind!!

I think it's a band Hi emiledgar - I was just beginning to think along the same lines. I think it might be a band around the hat.

collier Could the "collier en bois" be a ring of decorative wood around the base of the vertical part of the hat, resting on the brim as is sometimes done with leather and/or feathers?

collier en bois cousu you should understand "collier en bois" as a whole and "cousu" being a description of that whole and not "bois cousu".

That is the sentence. It's a description in a catalogue. The first sentence says: 100% straw. The one I posted is the second sentence. That's it I'm afraid.

I think it is not a chin strap, but it's an ornamental piece sewn onto the hat.
