Brand name for cable enclosures I'm pretty sure

In any event, it has nothing to do with the old tape punch telex machines.
I think Telex tubes are flexible enclosures through which communications cables are routed and I think, like Kleenex, it has become a generic word inthe industry.

Might also be wireless communications, there is a telex company which manufactures antenna equipment as well. Hope this helps.

get the client to specify exactly what he/she means

I'm not kidding.

Its a *very* bad idea to use a brand name as a generic name in specifications and technical manuals.

Legally, for example, it poses many problems: first of all, the client could be sued for diluting a trademark's goodwill; second, the end-user could risk liability for not using Telex-brand cable.

I've worked in technical fields most of my life and I've never heard of telex cable.

Is your client referring to BX cable (see the first link)? In other words, flexible coiled-metal-shield cable. If so, then the text should say "câble BX".

Is the client referring to NM (non-metallic) conduits?

Peer comment(s):

agree Bourth (X) : Yes, not good practice, but maybe that IS the brand they want. In my experience it is hardly a generic term in French.

Good point, but if it is the brand they want, then they should use "Telex" with the cap and specify which Telex-brand cable.
agree zaphod : Good idea. I couldn't find any references, even in tech dictionaries which used the accent

Telex Rail

Brand name.
