French to English Tech/Engineering Other sacoche ordinateur; texte original français par des locuteurs non natifs
Il s'agit d'une sacoche ordinateur; plus précisement, il me faut traduire une table des caractéristiques de la sacoche, donc il n'y a pas beaucoup de contexte, ni figures, ni photos de la sacoche.

Après les lignes

"emplacement tablette
poche de rangement
sangle ajustable, antidérapante
attache pour valise"

vient la ligne suivante:

"pastille : 15 pouces"

Et puis, dans la case suivante, il y a tout simplement "Sacoche ordinateur portable 15”

Je suis presque sûre que je pourrais la remplacer avec "dimension" ou "écran", mais j'ai mes doutes. Peut-être ils veulent dire "tablette"? En tout cas, la "pastille" pourrait être le résultat du Google Translate chinois-français: c'est une entreprise chinoise et ce ne serait pas la première fois qu'il y aurait des expressions pour le moins étranges.

Et mon ceterum censeo - je la vais traduire vers estonien, donc je serais reconnaissante même pour des explications (pour la combinaison français-estonien, il n'y a pas assez du monde au Proz).

This makes sense... although I wondered if they might have translated "screen" as "film", and then, "film" to "sticker", and "sticker" would already be close enough - it might be "pastille" in French, in certain context.

Maybe I can go with "computer size". "a bag for a 15'' computer" or something.

I accidentally did google translate on the first line from german (!) into French, and it came up with "tablette -> comprimé", which was when it occurred to me that there might somehow have somehow been a process that got back to pastille ...
e.g. if (the wrong kind of) tablet was google-translated into [chinese], and then back out again ...
(I also feel that it _should_ be tablet size rather than "screen" size because there could (in theory) be any size of frame around the screen, and it's the overall size that matters for the carrier. Of course, the manufacturer may be less pedantic than me...)

Philgoddard, I've tried to Google the company, unfortunately they don't provide many details about their products. And they haven't given me the names of the models.

Catharine, exactly! this sounds most logical. Actually, I'll need to translate two labels for similalr products; one is 15'', the other is 17''. Both seem like reasonable screen size for a laptop (and too big for an ordinary tablet).

I tried to play with Google translate too, but got stuck between "lozenges" and "diamonds".

These Chinese companies with their Google Translate have a lot to answer for!

Ecran ? The only thing that comes to mind in relation to a laptop and 15" is the size of the screen.
I don't know how 'screen' could become 'pastille', but I don't speak Chinese ;-)

Du point de vue lexical, tablette serait l'option plus logique. Mais 15 pouces serait un peu trop grand pour une tablette, a mon avis. Et la taille de l'écran serait un paramètre typique d'une sacoche d'ordinateur - même si normalement, cette information serait exprimée comme "la taille de l'ordinateur".

neutral philgoddard : We can't be sure, but I think this is a strong possibility, though they do also use "tablette". Fifteen-inch tablets do exist. I'd put a note saying I think this may be the meaning.

disagree ACOZ (X) : I usually agree with your answers but not in this case. The word "pastille" is followed by "15 pouces" and a 15-inch badge seems rather too large!
