The Bayer Microlet® Vaculance is the only system currently available for non-finger puncture and is specifically designed for patients involved in glucose self-monitoring. The endcap is removed to insert a type A lancet and the lancet cap removed. After replacing the endcap, the puncture depth is adjusted by rotating and aligning the transparent endcap to one of four settings. The Vaculance® is pressed against the puncture site and the lancet fired by completely depressing the plunger.
An airtight seal is then formed by slowly releasing the plunger which creates a vacuum. This causes the skin to bulge into the endcap as shown, dilating the puncture and increasing the flow of blood. The transparent endcap enables the operator to seen when sufficient blood has been collected, at which point the vacuum is released by partially depressing the plunger. If this step is omitted, any residual vacuum creates aerosols (blood splattering). Blood is then applied to a glucose test strip in the usual way. The used lancet is removed, recapped and discarded. How do I run a test on a non-fingertip site?
The ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancet device has a special clear plastic cap designed for testing on other areas of the body. Note: Do not use the clear cap when testing at the fingertip.

Remove the blue cap by using your thumb and finger to pull on the recessed area.
Insert a lancet until it clicks.
Twist off the lancet’s protective cover.
Snap on the clear cap after lining up the notches. The cap snaps easily into place.
Twist the cap to set the lancet depth. Dial the depth setting to 3 for palm testing. Dial the depth setting to 5-1/2 for forearm, upper arm, thigh, or calf testing. (These are suggested settings, yours may differ.)
Slide and release the meter's "on" button. The meter turns on and briefly shows all of the display symbols.
A test strip automatically advances.
The time and date appear on the display with a flashing test strip and blood drop symbol.
Press the plunger on the lancet device (like a pen) ALL the way down until it stops. The lancet device is now ready for use.
Press the opening of the clear cap firmly against a fleshy area on the non-fingertip site. Press the lancet device up and down in a slow pumping motion to assist the flow of blood.
