French term

n'en justifie pas la termination

French to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals HRT
"La découverte d'une pregnancy exposée par mégarde à ce médicament n'en justifie pas l'interruption"

Anything pithy for this out there?

Discussion

Anne Grimes Feb 23, 2006:
I don't think it is the pregnany that is accidental, it is the exposure to the drug. If accidental exposure to the drug should occur during pregnancy, it does not justify termination of the pregnancy.
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 23, 2006:
"If pregnancy should inadvertently occur, exposure to this drug does not in itself justify termination of the pregnancy." am I getting closer?
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 23, 2006:
"If a patient discovers that she has inadvertently become pregnant, exposure to this drug does not constitute grounds for an abortion"??
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 23, 2006:
Gayle: you are right! original had “grossesse” and not pregnancy, I made a mistake in copying, sorry
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 23, 2006:
Gayle: this is the official original French version as it appears in package inserts in France...
Gayle Wallimann Feb 23, 2006:
Is that the sentence with both French and English combined? It does not make sense. Could it be a poor translation from another language into French?

French term (edited): standard medical phrase

confrimation of a pregnancy exposed inadvertently to this medication does not justify its terminatio

It is stilll an akward sentence, but that is wat is meant: if you have taken this medication not knowing that you were pregnant, there is no reason to terminate the pregnancy
Peer comment(s):

agree Erik Macki : This is a close translation, which is probably appropriate for this context. Still awkward, but clear enough. (Confirmation, termination)
