white blood cell differential count confirmed by microscopy
Bonjour Liz. This expanded sentence shows the complete meaning; you might reduce it to "count," although I would use the word "differential" for "formule" because it's clearer that way that we're talking about white blood cells.
From the online medical dictionary: "differential count, Diff, white blood cell differential count - Hematology: The relative number of leukocytes–eg segmented and band forms of granulocytes, eosinophils, lymphocytes and monocytes in the peripheral circulation, expressed in percentages of the total WBC count."
"For this reason, manual WBC differential count by microscopy remains the current gold standard"
"The differential white blood cell count can be performed on an automated instrument or by microscopy."
Journal article reference: "Estimated platelet and differential leucocyte count by microscopy, sysmex XE – 2100 and cella vision DM 96. N Z J Med Lab Sci 2009; 63 (1): 3-10."
etc.

I think "confirmed" might be more precise than "performed" and I'm assuming that "contrôlée" works the same way in French as do controllato/controlado in Italian and Spanish.

Hi again,
Given the new context, I think it's definitely the white blood cell differential count, not a complete blood count

Strangely, this is what I understood after working it out myself...although I just put "differential count" |

full blood count manually reviewed
When a result obtained on a haematology analyser is checked by microscopy, it's often referred to as a manual review, e.g. "the International Consensus Group for Hematology Review has suggested criteria that should lead to manual review of a specimen after automated analysis"

I'd stick with full blood count (UK) or complete blood count (US) for formule sanguine. In my experience, the differential count is the formule leucocytaire (counts of neutrophils, lymphocytes, etc.).

Hi Liz, as your additional context shows they were referring to the formule leucocytaire, it's the differential count. They only mentioned the formule sanguine in the https://www.prevention-medicale.org/Cas-clinique-et-retours-... link originally posted

this is where I got "count" from:

differential count/mononuclear fraction > formule leucocytaire/monocytes (%). One translation of the English term differential count/mononuclear fraction in ...
here is the full context:
Formule leucocytaire:
Polynucléaires neutrophiles
soit
Lymphocytes
soit
Monocytes
soit
Polynucléaires éosinophiles
soit
Polynucléaires basophiles
soit
Erythroblastes
FORMULE CONTROLÉE Formule controlée au microscope

Thank you!
Apologies for not enough initial context.
Sorry, I have been snowed under with this translation - will get back to you ASAP.
As far as I know, in English the "formula" is just the white blood cell differential formula. Please clarify which it is here ... you usually provide more background for your questions.
In any case, I think "microscopy" is still correct.
